This jalapeno vegan grilled cheese sandwich sure beats the real thing! The air fryer makes this recipe so simple and easy. It tastes great with a warm and creamy bowl of tomato soup! 🙂
For this recipe, you will need an air fryer; however, if you don’t have an air fryer, you can just grill up this sandwich in a nonstick pan with a little coconut oil or vegan butter. This recipe also calls for Daiya Cheese, but if you want to omit the Daiya Cheese to keep the calories, fat, and sodium down, the jalapeno cheese sauce tastes just as great on it’s own!
Vegan Jalapeno Grilled Cheese (Air Fryer)
Ingredients
- 2 slices bread
- 2 slices Daiya Cheddar Cheese Slices
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup pickled jalapenos
- 4 tablespoons jalapeno cheese sauce see ingredients below
Jalapeno Cheese Sauce:
- 1 cup raw cashews presoaked for 30 minutes
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
- 1 tablespoon jalapeno juice from the pickled jalapeno jar
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- For the jalapeno cheese sauce, place the cheese sauce ingredients into a blender and blend until you've reached a smooth consistency. Then mix in the pickled jalapenos. Take 4 tablespoons of the cheese sauce and spread it on one slice of bread (you can save the rest of the cheese sauce as a dip for later). Then take 2 slices of the Daiya cheese and place on the other slice of bread. Close up the sandwich. Place the sandwich in the air fryer for 5 minutes at 350 degrees F. If using a pan, lightly coat the pan with vegan butter or coconut oil and grill until the bread is lightly browned and then flip over. Continue grilling until the cheese is melted. To reduce your oil intake, you can grill the sandwich in a nonstick pan without oil or butter. Enjoy! 🙂
